Remember

I believe that the God of heaven and earth has an irrational love for us.  It doesn’t make sense.  He calls us his children?  At one point he even calls us friends.  In fact, God cared so much for us that he displayed that love to the world by allowing his Son to die a brutal death on our behalf.

And a mysterious transaction took place.  Despite our sin and rebellion - the sacrifice of Jesus made us right with God.  The scripture says that, “while we were still sinners, christ died for us.”  We were lost, but now we are found.  We were in darkness, but now we enjoy the light.  Once we were slaves, but now we are set free.  We don’t deserve this gift but he gives it anyway.

Sometimes I forget the power and the profound beauty of what Jesus did on the cross that day.  It becomes too familiar.  It becomes an old story.  But it’s not just a story.  It’s real.  It’s real in my life.  And I have to stop, often, and remember the great price that Jesus paid to restore his people to God.
