We just wrapped up Sandblast 2011, our annual summer camp-conference for high school students, that we host every July.

I’ve had more than the normal amount of folks ask for the titles and song-writers we’ve been using so far this summer.  Some of the tunes are new and some are old faithfuls.  It’s a good mix of contemplative, fun, fast, slow, and mid tempo stuff.  We try to keep a pulse on which songs are really resonating with folks throughout the year to get to this list.  So, in no particular order here is the summer song list.

Your Love Never Fails - Jesus Culture

Rising - Charlie Hall

Mighty to Save - Hillsong

Our God- Chris Tomin

Revelation Song - Kari Jobe

All the Poor and Powerless - Sons & Daughters (BG version coming soon)

Me and the boys are headed to Milligan College in Johnson City, TN this weekend.  We’re playing for the “Move” conference and we are ready to go!

I have a friend who’s part of an amazing organization, Nuru International, and they are having an event in the Chicagoland area very soon.  Please check it out and spread the word!

Be Hope To Her (or BH2O) is an experiential solidarity walk that gives participants an opportunity to walk in the shoes of the poor. Most of the water collection duties of the extreme poor falls on women and children. They will walk for sometimes an hour one way to retrieve water from a spring, and then carry a fifty pound full bucket of water on their head, back to their families. They’ll often do this multiple trips per day, completely limiting their choices for school, education and other opportunities to get out of extreme poverty.

The BH2O event will start with everyone gathering at Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington. We will all set out together, walking on the sidewalk, journeying to the local “water source” at Langendorf Park. Once we arrive, everyone takes turns filling up their buckets, and then we return back to the start, carrying the buckets on our heads. Bring a t-shirt or small towel to roll up to cushion the bucket on your head. It’s definitely a challenging experience, but one that really impacts the participants, while raising awareness in the community. Those participating are free to raise support or contribute on their own.
